2008 - 2009 PROGRAMS
SERVICE PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES
Accelerated Reader: Assist in keeping records and giving prizes for this motivational, student-paced reading program for 1st through 5th grade students. Volunteers needed once a month for both AR deadlines and awards days.
Community Outreach: This committee looks for opportunities in which the PTA can be of service to our community, such as Evansdale's adoption of Henderson Park for quarterly clean-ups. Help bring forth additional community service ideas or volunteer to help at those events.
Cultural Arts: Our cultural arts committee works closely with the school's art, music, foreign language and additional departments to coordinate additional PTA-funded cultural arts field trips and in-house events to compliment the school curriculum.
EvansDads: Join in the fun as dads help out in various ways throughout the year. Help organize father-son and father daughter events.
Grandparent's Day: Help plan and organize a celebration luncheon for Evansdale grandparents, and weekday event held in September near Grandparent's Day.
Grounds Beautification: Our PTA plays an important role in maintaining and improving the appearance of our grounds, both inside and out. Volunteers come out on scheduled work days to help with our school grounds, courtyard area, nature trail, outdoor amphitheatre, indoor projects, and fall and spring plantings in special gardens set aside for each grade level.
Hospitality & Staff Appreciation: Making our guests, volunteers and our teachers/staff feel welcome and appreciated is second to none at Evansdale! Assist in providing refreshments and gifts for staff or special guests at meetings, events, and birthdays throughout the year, and help staff the committee's biggest event…Teacher Appreciation Week in May.
Literary Guild: A voluntary student program that encourages reading of classics in a variety of genres. Volunteers will assist during 30-minute weekly quiz sessions, before or after school.
Media Center: Assist in the school library with re-shelving books. Daytime volunteers needed once or twice a month.
Monitor-Free Monday: Once or twice a month our PTA parents relieve the teachers from lunchroom duty. Come to the school and help monitor the lunchroom 1-2 hours and experience lunch with the kids from a teacher's perspective! A big hit with the Dads!
Newsletter: Volunteers may help collect, compile and distribute information for the monthly PTA newsletter.
Olympic Day: Assist with the various events and relays at the Olympic-themed Evansdale Field Day held in late spring.
Red Ribbon Week: Red Ribbon Week is a time for communities across the nation to come together in the fight against drugs. Help with activities in late fall designed to educate and inform our students on how to be drug-free.
Special Services: Help raise awareness throughout our school and community of the various needs of our children. Coordinate activities with the National Exceptional Children Week.
Student Recognition: Student success is top priority at Evansdale! Help needed in fall and spring to create and sort certificates for the students' honors assembly. Help organize the Citizen of the Month breakfasts and gift packets.
TV-Free Week: Volunteers will coordinate incentives to encourage students to go TV-free for an entire week in late April.
Volunteer Team: Support Volunteer Coordinator in providing various PTA committees with adequate number of volunteers throughout the year and if necessary may help with contacting and organizing volunteers.
